About the club

Universitetets Karateklubb - UKK - is primarily for students and staff at universities and colleges in Bergen.

We train the karate style Chito-ryu, a traditional karate style characterised by natural stances, holistic training of body and mind, and techniques for effective self-defence.

UKK is an accomplished club, founded in 1972. Over the years, members of UKK have trained, travelled, and competed, earning good results. In addition, members of UKK have won several international medals at the Soke Cup, roughly equivalent to Chito-ryu’s World Championship.

UKK stands outside BSI for historical reasons. When UKK was founded in 1972, BSI was not interested in offering karate at the university/college. Many years later, BSI Karate came along, but it’s important for us to emphasise that BSI Karate and UKK are two separate clubs.
